When the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) recognized that artificial intelligence could reshape both the safety profession and the association’s role in supporting members, its leadership chose to act with intention. ASSP had already conducted research, member surveys, and foresight discussions to understand AI’s potential impact. The organization’s proactive board wanted more than a general conversation about technology; it needed a clear strategy, practical priorities, and a roadmap that could guide responsible action.

.orgSource partnered with ASSP to transform early exploration into a structured AI strategy and action plan. The engagement began with preparation for a facilitated World Café planning session, including development of a task force charter, review of existing research, and creation of pre-read materials to ensure participants were ready for a productive discussion.

During the facilitated session, .orgSource helped ASSP’s task force examine both the opportunities and risks AI presented for safety professionals. The group worked to define a future vision, identify strategic priorities, and draft goal statements for how ASSP could serve as a trusted advisor and resource to its members.

Following the session, .orgSource synthesized the insights into an AI strategy, roadmap, and action plan. The process included validation with staff and members, additional research into partnerships and resource needs, and preparation of board-ready recommendations. Within a defined timeline, ASSP received a practical plan designed to align AI opportunities with mission, member value, budget considerations, and implementation realities.

The result was a disciplined pathway for moving from AI uncertainty to strategic leadership. ASSP gained the structure needed to guide board-level decision-making, prioritize member-facing opportunities, and position the association as a credible resource for professionals navigating disruption in their field.
