Society for Vascular Surgery

Operational Assessments | System Selection and Implementation

.orgSource developed overall IT and web strategy, website and AMS vendor selection, and project management for SVS. We also helped SVS become more mobile and digital-first.

Overview

The Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) is a not-for-profit professional medical society, composed primarily of vascular surgeons, that seeks to advance excellence and innovation in vascular health through education, advocacy, research and public awareness. SVS is the national advocate for more than 5,800 specialty-trained vascular surgeons and other medical professionals who are dedicated to the prevention and cure of vascular disease.

The challenge

SVS was in need of new systems to enhance the quality of care by providing educational resources for professionals, and help patients make more informed choices about their care. It also needed a simpler way to create, review and publish content. There were too many layers of approval in content workflow process.

The Solution

SVS engaged .orgSource to guide the overall IT and web strategy, website and AMS vendor selection, and project management. .orgSource als

o pushed SVS to become more mobile/digital-first in its thinking with regard to SVS members. For example, SVS surgeons at its annual meeting are using their phones and tablets more than the printed guide to look up contacts, access program details, and read abstracts. SVS’ mobile app has picked up more traction with downloads and usage.

The Results

SVS’s new, robust AMS and vascular.org website launched in March 2016. Among the changes:

  • More capabilities and functionalities for staff, members and other users
  • Everything was developed with a mobile-first experience in mind to make accessing information convenient for time-strapped surgeons. Self-service capabilities are more robust. Shopping activities are now unified—not custom development endeavors. For example, users can now view billing and email correspondence from SVS as well as alter their profile information to increase their visibility among desired patient populations.
  • Staff can more easily create, review, publish and track performance of media-rich content—YouTube embedded videos, podcasts, slideshow presentations, etc.—and e-commerce items, among many other tasks.

Future enhancements call for CME/MOC tracking and processing for SVS members. A future portal will be a place for SVS members to declare and retrieve their CME credits from SVS and self-report from other education entities.
